THE Songbirds areSara Storer, Beccy Cole and Gina Jeffreys. The past two years have seen these three highly successful solo artists deliver sell out concerts nationally. I caught up with Sara Storer in Darwin this week where as she prepares for an extensive Songbirds to commencing late June.

I have Sara relaxing at home after the recent birth of son, Harry, now two months old. “It’s good to have a break and put my feet up for six months. You don’t know what to expect as a mother and being a mother on the road will be very challenging.”

Sara grew up in country Victoria and was from a family of musicians. “My dad Lindsay play piano accordion and my mother Fay played
piano. I learnt of a lot about music by ear from my father.n I listened to John Williamson and enjoyed his songs about Australia,” Sara said.

“My brother Greg, a farmer, is a talented singer/songwriter and we share a special formula when we work together. I look forward to getting together with Greg and doing some gigs together and perhaps recording a few duets. The family unit is the root of my music and it’s important to keep it all together.”

The Songbirds have released a new DVD ‘You’ve Got a Friend’ (EMI) containing 25 of their most popular songs and includes special guest appearances from Kasey Chambers, John Williamson and Troy Cassar-Daley. The DVD was recorded live during the 2009 Tamworth Country Music Festival.

Sara said, “Touring with two mums’ means sometimes our dressing room looks like a crèche. I can’t wait to get back on the road with the girls and claim on some of the baby sitting duties they owe me. I am due for a fifth album and when we complete the tour I will set some recording dates.”

The birth of son Harry may inspire Sara to write some new material. “It won’t be an album about baby songs but I am sure there will be a track or two about my time before and after the birth of Harry,” Sara said.

The DVD is proving a huge success and Sara believes that 2009 will be the final year for the Songbirds. “Whilst we are all different in music styles and personality we have proved to beaperfect formula. We all have other things to do and places to go.”

The Songbirds will perform Queensland dates in November.
